We select Research Associates on their ability to contact people on the telephone who we typically do not know beforehand. You must be able to find names of potential candidates who could be our targets. You need to get through the "gate keeper" (that is what we call receptionists, switchboard and secretaries) to present and sell a job opportunities that will inspire the potential candidates.
Great researchers make it happen through hard work, making hundreds of telephone calls to interact with candidates, understand the opportunity gap in a candidate's current situation, determine the decision-making criteria a candidate will use to make a change, work with a candidate to help them land a better opportunity. You impress the recruitment consultants (your colleagues) by presenting top qualified candidates within a short time which they in turn can present to our external client. All that's just a highlight the things great researchers do well.
To be successful you must really love to talk to strangers and not be afraid of the telephone. You must be prepared to live with disappointments when potential candidates turn you down. You need courage and confidence.
